Welcome to the Southern Minnesota Jazz Society!

We're very excited to be here.

So what is a Jazz Society anyway?

A jazz society is an organization or group of people dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and enjoyment of jazz music. These societies may be non-profit or for-profit, and typically offer a variety of activities and services related to jazz music, including concerts, festivals, workshops, educational programs, and social events. Jazz societies may also provide resources for musicians, such as rehearsal space, recording facilities, and networking opportunities. The mission of a jazz society is to foster an appreciation for jazz music and to support the jazz community by creating a space for artists and enthusiasts to connect and collaborate.

Why start a Jazz Society in Southern Minnesota?

Southern Minnesota has a rich cultural and artistic community. The Southern Minnesota Jazz Society was founded to support the jazz musicians and jazz education programs in our region. It was a love of jazz music that inspired SMNJazz founder, Hannah Bretz, to bring together musicians and supporters alike to create a support network for artists and promote jazz as a rich and diverse art form.

We need your support.

It's one thing to create a network of jazz appreciators to support and promote the jazz music scene. It's another to be able to provide that support. The Southern Minnesota Jazz Society relies on patrons and donors to financially create and support opportunities for jazz musicians to share their craft and enrich the jazz community in our area. When you join the Southern Minnesota Jazz Society as a paying member and make donations, we are empowered to make a difference.
